Turns out the Pinewood Derby race results were based on time…

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

As you recall in this post, I questioned how Jeffrey could NOT have one first place.

They posted the stats of the race and it turns out they used time and NOT placement to determine the winner. I think next year we should employ a ladder structure: i.e. make the top of each Den compete in the quarter or semi finals to try to get to a set of top 4 finishers. And then have the Finals be the race of those 4 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

That seems fairer — what do you think?

Jeffrey’s car wins all of his Pinewood Derby races…

except 1 and comes in 3rd? His car was screaming fast. Jeffrey came up with the idea, I helped him with the saw wheel and body cutting. Jeffrey polished the axles, wheels, and I helped him glue them on. We then weighed the car and put the weights (washers on a screw) on the back.

How does someone win all the races excep1 1 and come in 3rd place? I asked after the event because it seemed like they weren’t using Wins which doesn’t really seem fair.

Here’s a pic of the car.
