Wireless Broadband here we come!

Friday, March 30th, 2007

I just picked up a Sprint Wireless USB EVDO Adapter and Kyocera KR-1 Router for my laptop and RV.  I’ve been researching them for awhile.  Rob Biederharn had one at Children’s hospital and I thought it would be a great idea for work or to use while traveling in the RV.  It really works well, it’s fast and the kids can play their games and I can get some work done wherever we happen to be.

Finally I get the TV back from Westinghouse Digital

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Good gosh, this took a long time. The TV wouldn’t work properly with the VCR — the sync was all screwed up. It didn’t support HDMI. What a horrible tech purchase. Reminder about their customer service – don’t buy from Westinghouse Digital.

Prepping the RV

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

So I have the RV and now comes the fun work — getting it ready for the Trip.  I have to de-winterize it (flush antifreeze from tanks, checkout the water heater, flush the toilet, install water purifier, run some vinegar through the water tanks, then dump the waste tanks.  I wanted to find a flat screen TV for the back, or at least something that runs on 12 volts.  The TV in front runs only on AC — so the generator has to be on and it doesn’t have a VCR or DVD player built in.

I’m going to bring it Bob Sumerel Dent and Tire to have new shocks, a steering stabilizer and enhanced sway bar installed.  I also need to  find a storage facility.  I stored it in the neighbors driveway for a little while, but their neighbor complained that it block their view of Mount Pleasant Ave.  Oh brother.    After a lot of research, I’ve decided I’m going to store it at American Self Storage.

The RV Hunt is OVER!

I’ve found the RV I’ve been looking for. My friend Bob looked at it for me. He said it was in pristine condition. It’s a 1994 31′ Winnebago Brave (WCF31RQ). Vanlue is a bit out of the way for me to look at it. Bob gave me the background on it. How did he arrive at the asking price? It’s my first time buying an RV. I’ve been researching them. I’m going to use the NADA to get a real asking price and start negotiating from there. It turns out it needs a new set of tires (6) and they run about $350 each. Not the cheapest tires around.

I’m going to have it checked out at Sparks Tire and RV.

I think I was probably the 2nd RV they had in there.  The first was the owner’s RV.  They did a pretty decent job.

The Winnebago is ready for Vacation!

I’m RV hunting again this weekend.  Hopefully it is fruitful.  The RVs are up in Dayton/Springfield.  I’m going to drive and bring Christine’s Dad along to look at them.

So the weekend brings, RV Hunting for me, Matthew is in a photography class and jeffrey has chess class.  I also was supposed to have a guitar lesson that I need to move, because of the RV hunting.

Tonight we’re staying at Great Wolf Lodge.  Christine’s Dad gave us a gift card for Christmas to this new Indoor water park.  We’ll stay tonight and then play there for the whole day tomorrow.

I found one that was on RVTraderOnline from Vanlue which turns out is pretty close to my friend Bob (15 mi).  He checked it out for me and took a bunch of pictures.  It turns out it was in pristine condition.  A 1994 Winnebago Brave.  It had 20,890 miles on it when I got it.  I needed a new set of tires, but otherwise it was in great shape.  I also put a new steering stabilizer, shocks and swaybar on it.   Here are some photos:
